ATV World Yamaha rider Paul Holmes won the IOPD Quad X Championship on the 6th of September after an impressive season.
Race One: Paul got a good start and just was only just passed at the first corner by Oli Sansom and James Behan. Paul then overtook James on the third lap. Paul was determined to take maximum points and was beginning to catch Oli, who had worked a big lead. With just three laps to go, Paul had caught up and passed on the hairpin turn. With wet weather to contend with, the track was slippy and hard to pass. All riders rode well with Paul Holmes taking first place.
Race Two: Paul enjoyed another good start and had a steady race, working his way up to second place but as he went off-line to make a pass, he went over a berm! Fortunately he recovered and finished in second place, first overall on the day and the new 2008 IOPD Quad X Champion!
Holmes Wins at Round Nine of European Quad Championships 2008
Paul Holmes took his ATV World YFZ450 to Germany last weekend for the penultimate round of the European Championships and finished fourth in both races - leaving him with 36 points. This tied Paul in joint first on the day with Maessen and Vlaeymans.
Race One: Having qualified sixth, Paul made a good start to race one going into the first corner about fifth. Battling with Jan Vlaeymans, Maessen and Ingo Ten Vergvlaar for the whole race. On the last lap Paul passed Jan and finished in fourth spot while Romain Couprie won.
Race Two: Paul didn't get such a good start to race two but worked hard in the first quarter of the race to move into fourth and finished just behind Stefan Schreiber, Maessen and Jan. This meant that Paul, Maessen and Jan Vlaeymans were tied on 36 points, making Paul's third time on the podium out of the last three rounds rode in Europe! Paul is also ranked the highest place British rider in Europe this year despite missing half of the rounds!
Both Paul Holmes and John Mitchell now travel to Oxford for this weekend's final round of the ACU British MMX Quad Championships 2008. With the championship first place already taken by Paul Winrow, it's an exciting battle for second, third and forth between Mitchell, Holmes and Tordoff.
