Tyler Bowers Grabs Ninth Win and Extends Points Lead Saturday Night in Cedar Park

Lance Vincent Emerges with Arenacross Lites Class Victory

CEDAR PARK, Texas (January 28, 2012) – The eighth round of the 2012 AMA Arenacross Series came to an end on Saturday night with a familiar face standing atop the podium. The second night of action from the Cedar Park Center saw Babbitt’s Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki presented by Maxxis’ Tyler Bowers, of Danville, Ky., assert his control of the Arenacross Class Championship by grabbing his ninth win of the season. In the Arenacross Lites Class, Munn Racing KTM’s Lance Vincent, of Breaux Bridge, La., took a surprise win.

Bowers emerged out of the gate for the 25-lap Arenacross Class Main Event with the holeshot, and it was all he needed to carry the momentum the rest of the way. The reigning series champion posted a convincing wire-to-wire victory, grabbing the checkered flag over six seconds ahead of the field.

Behind Bowers, Bella’s Cupcakes/Club MX Kawasaki’s Zach Ames, of Prospect, Ohio, and FMF Power/Poynt TUF Honda’s Jeff Gibson, of Blacklick, Ohio, engaged in battled for the runner-up spot, going bar-to-bar with one another for the majority of the main event. On Lap 17, Gibson finally found a way by and held on to the runner-up spot through to the finish. Ames looked to hold on to the final podium spot, but was passed late by Babbitt’s Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki’s Chad Johnson, of Rhinelander, Wis.

Bowers extended his points lead to 16 points over Gibson, one night after losing two points to his rival.

In the 18-lap Arenacross Lites Class Main Event, BNTQ.com Honda’s Kevin Markwardt, of Freeport, Ill., took the holeshot, with Vincent and night one winner Kevin Johnson, of Spring, Texas, in tow aboard his Team Faith KTM.

Markwardt handled the pressure of being out front and the advances of his competitors well, holding onto the lead for nearly the entire race. On Lap 10, Vincent moved into the lead, while Markwardt and Johnson battled for the runner-up spot. On Lap 15, Johnson moved into second while Markwardt experienced misfortune.

Johnson held on for second, capping of a stellar weekend, while Dragon Racing Fuels/AG Motorsports KTM’s Michael Willard, of Newark, Ohio, grabbed third.

The 2012 AMA Arenacross Series season continues next weekend, hosting the ninth round of the championship from another new venue. Lexington, Ky., and Rupp Arena will host one night of action, on Saturday, February 4, with action kicking off at 7 p.m. ET.
