The Recreation Trails Program (RTP) provides millions of dollars each year to maintain and build thousands of miles of trails across the nation including motorized, mechanized and non mechanized trials. The RTP is funded with a portion of the gas taxes paid by those who use their vehicles for off highway recreation.
Recreation Trails Program funding could be lost
This week the Senate will vote on a new Transportation bill MAP21 that DOES NOT include re authorizing dedicated funding for the RTP. Senator Amy Klobuchar from Minnesota will be introducing an Amendment to the bill to dedicate funding and continue the RTP.
I have called both Senators Feinstein and Boxer asking them if they will support the Klobuchar Amendment to continue dedicated fiunding of the RTP, but have not yet received their response. To make a stronger statement I also submitted a formal letter on behalf of Stewards of the Sequoia members.
Without your help this could be the end of the RTP.
Please take a few minutes to call the Senators and ask if they will support the Klobuchar Amendment to dedicate RTP funding in the MAP21 Transportation bill.
