Britain's Chaz Davies took a big gamble on bike setup before the start of this weekend's Daytona 200 which paid off and saw him finish seventh in the main event.
Riding the Millennium Technologies Aprilia, a team that has never entered the race before, Davies qualified in 14th place so missed Superpole but this gave his pit crew time to make some alterations.
In the race, which Davies posted the quickest lap of 1'48.947, there were all-sorts of shenanigans with failing lights and red flags. After the final re-start, Davies was able to claim sixth, but due to lap-scoring issues, he was put back to seventh.
"The weekend was fairly difficult trying to get the bike sorted in the limited time was had. Rocky Stargel and Jimmy Le did a fantastic job though. They took a huge gamble before the race with the set-up and it worked," said Davies, who won't say what the setup gamble was.
"The bike handled awesome and being able to turn the fastest lap of the race is very encouraging for the future. I would like to thank Aprilia for all of the support - the bike is excellent and I am very much looking forward to rest of the season."
