Senate to Take up Transportation Bill this Week – Urge Your Senators to Support the Klobuchar Amendment
A couple weeks ago we reported the good news that Senator Klobuchar from Minnesota intended to file an amendment to transportation reauthorization legislation, S. 1813 (also known as MAP-21) to fully restore RTP! She has followed through and we now have an amendment number, S. AMDT 1661 to S. 1813. More importantly your previous efforts are paying off as Senator Klobuchar has been joined on her amendment by a bipartisan group of cosponsors including Senators Burr (R-NC), Shaheen (D-NH), Risch (R-ID), Sanders (I-VT) and Udall (D-CO). But, as always, there is more to do.
The Senate will begin to take up amendments to S. 1813 this week and it is imperative that you click the Take Action link below to send an email to your Senators urging them to cosponsor and support S. AMDT 1661.
The Recreational Trails Program (RTP), arguably the most important government program ever created to benefit motorized recreation (as well as non-motorized recreation) faces a big hurdle in transportation reauthorization legislation. As you know the RTP funds the development and maintenance of thousands of miles of motorized and non-motorized trails, but without your action the RTP may be eliminated.
Transportation reauthorization legislation, known as MAP-21, that passed the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee late last year will be considered by the full Senate this week.
MAP-21 threatens the very existence of RTP by eliminating the program’s dedicated funding. Senator Klobuchar’s amendment would restore the necessary dedicated funding!
