RIVERSIDE, Calif. (February 25, 2013) – This past Saturday, the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series traveled to Atlanta and welcomed a near sellout crowd of 68,987 inside the Georgia Dome.
The red Georgia clay featured diverse conditions for the N-Fab/TiLUBE/Yamaha riders of Chris Blose and Phil Nicoletti. Suffering an ugly crash in the afternoon’s first qualifying session, Nicoletti was taken to the hospital for x-rays. Fortunately, the trip was just a precautionary measure and he was able to return a couple of hours later. Despite his hectic afternoon, Nicoletti was able to make it through the qualifying sessions and would be seeded into the second heat race of the night alongside his teammate.
After banging bars and fighting for position, Blose and Nicoletti would settle into eighth and ninth place, respectively, at the completion of the first lap. Blose was able to move up a couple of positions and transfer directly to the main event, while his teammate would be forced to ride the LCQ.
Nicoletti lined up for the LCQ eager to get earn his first 450 main event appearance. He would find himself in seventh place after the start and raced hard throughout the entire six lap race. Despite his valiant effort, Nicoletti would be unable to make it into qualifying position by the checkered flag.
“I had a huge crash in the first qualifying session of the day,” said Nicoletti. “I went to the hospital to get a few things checked out and was eventually cleared to ride. I did the best I could but was quite sore from the crash. I am glad to still be healthy and will keep working hard to get to where I know I can be.”
Blose had his sites set on grabbing the main event holeshot and was in a great position to do so heading down the start straight. In order to avoid multiple collisions, Blose was forced to the far outside of the first turn, ending his chances at a holeshot. He would put in 20 hard laps but was unable to find his rhythm from the weekend before in Dallas and would cross the line in 17th position.
“I did not feel like myself today,” said Blose. “In the main I thought I was going to have the holeshot but got pushed wide. I put my head down but just couldn’t find a good flow. Then I got a little bit of arm pump and had to back off. While I’m disappointed in my result, I’m confident things will be better next weekend.”
The series travels to the Edwards Jones Dome in St. Louis for the ninth round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series this Saturday, March 2. Be sure to stop by the N-Fab/TiLUBE/Yamaha truck to show your support and to have your picture taken with Chris Blose and Phil Nicoletti from 12:30 – 5:30 p.m. See you there!
