HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (March 3, 2013) – The Edward Jones Dome in frigid St. Louis, Mo. was the site of round nine of the 2013 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship Series. The first race in the stadium was held on April 27, 1996 and was won by Jeff Emig, a Mo. native. Emig now provides the color commentating for the CBS and SPEED broadcasts. The 450SX Class will air today at noon, (EST) on CBS. 2012 set a venue attendance record of 59,742 fans at the Edward Jones Dome. Last night’s crowd of 60,178 broke the record raising the bar for next year.
Justin Brayton and Kyle Chisholm transferred directly to the main event from heat race one. On the third lap of the main Chisholm collided with another rider in the air and suffered a violent crash. Because of his position on the track and unclear condition, the race was red flagged so the medics could attend to the fallen Chisholm. He was transported to a nearby hospital and evaluated. There was concern surrounding his neck and back, but early reports are that his neck and back checked out, and his knee and ankle are the focus of treatment. He will travel home to Florida and seek the advice of his regular doctors.
The race was restarted NASCAR style, with the riders lining up in the position they were in when the race was stopped. Brayton began the re-start in 11th and quickly moved into 10th. By lap 15 he was in ninth, which is where he finished.
Daytona International Speedway will host the 10th stop of the tour on March 9. SPEED will broadcast the race live in its entirety starting at 7:30 p.m. (EST). Supercross Live will begin streaming from Daytona at 3:00 p.m. (EST) on supercrossonline.com.
