AMA Off-Road championships are all midway through their seasons, and teams sponsored by Motion Pro are mixing it up for titles. The top two off road racing series, GNCC in the east and WORCS in the west, are proving to be real dogfights with many different winners so far. Winning an off-road championship in these series requires a greater diversity of skills than any other form of two wheeled racing and never before have we seen this depth of talent.
The GNCC Series has become the premier off-road title to win in the USA and has drawn World Champions like Juha Salminen and David Knight over for a chance at winning this prestigious title, and both have found success wining many titles for the Motion Pro sponsored KTM Team. The 2009 GNCC now heads for their summer break and after 9 of 13 races under their belt the Motion Pro sponsored Team Suzuki Off Road occupies two of the three top spots, with Josh Strang in second overall and Charles Mullins in third. The Motion Pro sponsored team riders of Factory KTM Off Road and Am Pro Yamaha fill out the top 10 for an excellent showing in the GNCC.
WORCS racing is a relatively new series to AMA off-road competition, but is growing rapidly and is campaigned by all the major OEM’s. Each race is a grueling two plus hour high speed event in the Western US, including Washington, California, Nevada and Arizona in all conditions, from heavy rain to 105 degree desert temperatures. Again, Motion Pro sponsored teams and athletes occupy the top positions. After 6 of 10 races, veteran Mike Brown of the KTM team holds a slim 1 point margin over returning Champ Bobby Bonds of the Valli Motosports team. In third place, just 11 points back, is Monster Energy Kawasaki/Motion Pro’s Ricky Dietrich, probably the biggest story of the year. Ricky has been doing extra work this year as he was called up by the Factory motocross team to fill in for injured Tim Ferry, and Ricky has responded very well by finishing as the top Kawasaki rider, and pushing for top 5 finishes. Ricky will also be returning to defend his Endurocross Championship.
Motion Pro sponsored teams and athletes are also doing well in the AMA National Hare & Hound series, with KTM’s David Kamo and Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Destry Abbott trading wins. Over at the AMA/FMF National Enduro Series, long time Motion Pro sponsored athlete and multi time champion Mike Lafferty is back to his winning way’s leading his teammate Russell Bobbitt by 6 points.
Now combine all of these riders and their different disciplines together and throw in huge rock piles, mountainous tractor tires, massive log fields, deep water holes and put it inside a sold out, compact arena and you’ve got the most exciting new form of offroad entertainment today, the AMA GEICO Endurocross series.
