Mitchell Maintains Lead in Pro Class
This weekend saw round six and seven of the IOPD British Quad-X Championship Pro Class at the Foxholes track. Saturday started with qualifying for round six. With a muddy track and miserable weather conditions, the racing promised to be challenging for both bike and rider. ATV World Yamaha rider Paul Holmes put in some superb lap times to qualify second and John Mitchell made sixth.
Race one started well for John until he suffered a puncture early on. Fortunately he was riding with Tyre Jonnys which allowed him to remain competitive and he finished in third place. Paul Holmes made several passes to finish in sixth place. With the track drying out, the afternoon race began with a good start from John Mitchell who took the lead and the win. Paul Holmes made a few passes and finished in fourth place. John also took the overall win of the day.
Sunday qualifying began with improved weather conditions as the track started to dry out. John qualified in first place and Paul made fourth. Race one started well for John until he suffered a puncture early on. He managed to hang on and was only passed by Paul Holmes who took the third place with John coming fourth. In race two Paul Holmes was running in second place until he came off in a collision with John Mitchell who went on to win the race. Paul didn't give up and from last place, made an outstanding recovery to pass until he finished in fourth.
Both ATV World Yamaha YFZ450's performed superbly as John increased his lead in the championship and Paul remained third. Next race is the 2007 Weston Super Mare beach race on the 20th October and the final IOPD British Quad-X Championship Pro Class is on the 3rd and 4th November at Armthrope. Hope to see you there!
