Holmes takes maximum points at Scottish Round 4 in Lanark
Lanark, just below Glasgow in Scotland played host to an exciting round 4 of the SACU Scottish Quadcross Championship on Sunday 20th June. With a rain free forecast for the entire weekend it looked like being a red hot day with dust being an issue so good starts would be vital. Current points leader Paul Holmes made the 4 hour drive north to continue his championship campaign and grab valuable track time before next weekend's British Championship event.
Race 1: Holmes making a perfect start to the day took a great Holeshot and started to pull away from the field. The track was extremely technical and packed full of big jumps but Holmes rode smooth and faultlessly continuing his lead in the race before taking the chequered flag with a 19.77 seconds lead over Watson and Beda. Holmes also managed to get the fastest lap of the race which was an impressive 1.56.087 seconds.
Race 2: As the track was watered prior to the race Holmes knew another good start would be important. He took the Holeshot and found a very slippery track waiting ahead. A spectacular battle ensued between Holmes and Watson which made for some good, clean, action packed racing which thrilled the spectators. As Holmes slipped out in a hairpin turn just short of the half way marker Watson got by. Holmes, not happy with his mistake, soon retook the lead two corners later. Holmes kept a tight hold of the lead until he claimed his second win of the day with a 12.97 second lead.
Race 3: Holmes made another great start grabbing another Holeshot and soon began to pull away. At the half way point Holmes had build up a respectable lead and kept it consistent until the finish to win the third race of the day ahead of local Scotsman John Mitchell and fellow Englishman Mark Watson in 3rd place.
With yet another maximum score, Holmes has now won 11 out of the championship's 12 races, taking all 4 overalls to extend his lead in the series to 48 points.
Holmes commented after the days racing: "I'm more than happy with the 3 wins today as it means I'm still leading the Scottish Championship. It has also been great practice for me ahead of next weekend's British Championship. We have been pushing the quad set-up mid week and again today to get the maximum out of the HOLMES Racing KTM and we're pleased with the progress, I feel really confident in myself and my quad and am looking forward to more racing. Again I’d like to say a big thanks to all my great sponsors, Team and family for making this happen."
