Response for Bob from Winfield
Motion Pro does not list any applications for this tool, but it is a direct replacement and identical in size and shape to Yamahaís OEM tool YM-01245. We do know and have confirmed that it will not work on the following models XZ550, XVZ1200/1300, FJ1100/1200, XT250L, XT/TT350, but this list is not complete so please check your factory Yamaha service manual to confirm this tool is required for your model and year. Quick Tip: The valve shim tool can be positioned anywhere along the circumference valve bucket away from the recess. The tip of the tool is not designed to be inserted into the recess of the valve bucket. The recess is to allow the shim to be pried up when the valve bucket is depressed. For specifications and proper use of this tool please reference your factory Yamaha service manual.

Valve tool worked like a charm on my 1981 Yamaha XJ650 Maxim. I can't vouch for other models, but it worked perfectly for me.

Works fine!
I have two aircooled XJ-series Yamahas and this tool works great! It does take some "self training" to get the placement technique down, but once you learn, it works first time every time. Highly recommended.
