Common Question three years ago

I recently installed a clutch cable, and now it is fraying right near the lever at the handlebar. What is the problem?

The best solutions

A clutch cable fraying that quickly generally points to a possible installation problem. All cables must be lubricated and maintained regularly to make the most out of them. One very important part of this is to make sure that the barrel in the clutch lever is greased and kept clean, as if the barrel binds in the lever due to lack of lubrication, the barrel will not pivot smoothly, and will flex the inner wire rather than pulling it straight. This will cause the inner wire to fray and fail as may be the case with your motorcycle. Read our cable maintenance article.
