Common Question three years ago

I was using my chain breaker, and the hex on the body bolt broke while I was tightening it. When I removed it from the chain, the chain was untouched, and the pin was also broken inside the tool. What did I do wrong?

The best solutions

I am fairly sure I know the reason why you experienced a failure. Most likely what happened was that you retracted the pin too far into the body of the tool, and the pin went off center and hung up inside the tool. Then, when you attempt to press out the chain pin, you were actually only putting pressure on the inside of the body bolt, and due to the lesser thread engagement, the hex broke off the body bolt. This is why the instructions on the package of the tool are so specific about how to position the pin before using the tool.
