Hello Steve,
What you are hearing is most likely the decompression system lifting the exhaust valve slightly, not a leak at the spark plug hole. The adapter hose is exactly the same size as the 10mm spark plug that normally goes there. The CRF decompression system is extremely sensitive, just a couple of degrees off TDC will lift the exhaust valve.
