- Daytona Race Report

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (March 8, 2015) – Daytona International Speedway was host to round 10 of the 2015 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship Series.  Fox Sports One broadcast the entire event live.  Daytona is a unique stop on the tour, as the track is built within the infield of the iconic speedway, and has both supercross and motocross characteristics.  The sandy soil deteriorates quickly making for extremely rough and rutted conditions.

Phillip Nicoletti transferred to the main event from heat race two, Weston Peick earned a gate for the final by winning semi one.  In the main event both of the riders began the race inside the top-10 with Peick sixth and Nicoletti ninth after lap one.  By the halfway point Peick had fought his way to second which he held for five laps.  Peick has not been able to train or ride regularly since injuring his foot several weeks ago in Phoenix, and then suffering an MCL tear in Dallas.  While he clearly has the speed to race at the front of the field his conditioning is still progressing to his pre-injury status and his lap times began to slow toward the end of the race causing him to slip to eighth at the checkers.  Nicoletti was 14th.

Round 11 of the 17-race series will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind. on March 14.  Fox Sports Two will broadcast the race live starting at 7:00 p.m. (EST).
