HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (March 22, 2015) – Ford Field in Detroit, Mich. was host to round 12 of the 2015 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship Series. Detroit’s trademark track feature has been to have the course go up into the stands, a tradition that started back when the event was held in the Pontiac Silverdome. 46,141 fans were on hand to see that tradition continue, and Fox Sports One aired the racing action live.
Weston Peick, who logged the second fastest time in qualifying transferred to the main event directly from heat race one. Phillip Nicoletti won semi one earning a gate in the main and an interview with the floor reporter to the Detroit crowd. Unfortunately Nicoletti was collected in a second turn crash at the start of the main event causing him to start the first lap in 22nd place. Peick began in sixth and moved into fifth on lap three. On lap six Peick went down hard ending his night. Nicoletti fought his way to 15th at the checkers, while Peick was scored 22nd. Although Peick is bruised and sore, he is expected to race this weekend in St. Louis.
Round 13 of the 17-race series will be held at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, Mo. March 28. Fox Sports One will broadcast the race live starting at 8:00 p.m. (EST).
