San Diego Race Report
HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (Feb. 8, 2015) – For the first time San Diego’s Petco Park was host to the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship Series. While San Diego has long been a regular stop for the series, Qualcomm Stadium had been the race venue until this year. 42,017 fans were in attendance and the entire event was broadcast live on Fox Sports One. For the second straight year, San Diego was the Military Appreciation Race of the series due to the large military presence in the area, and the AutoTrader.com/Toyota/Yamaha Team had special graphics provided by Factory Effex to commemorate the occasion.
Justin Barcia was injured while practicing Thursday afternoon and was not able to race. He traveled home to Georgia to seek the counsel of a specialist regarding an injury to his hip. His status will be updated this week.
Weston Peick, who was injured at the Phoenix round of the series is planning to attempt returning to racing this Sat., Feb. 14 in Dallas.
With Barcia and Peick injured, Phillip Nicoletti was the sole rider for the AutoTrader.com/Toyota/Yamaha Team at Petco Park. Nicoletti began the night by transferring to the main event directly from heat race one in fourth place, his best heat race finish this season. In the main event Nicoletti began the race just outside of the top-10. He stayed consistent during the 20 lap race, earning 14th at the checkers.
Round seven of the series will be held at Cowboy Stadium in Dallas, Tex. on Feb. 14. Fox Sports Two will air the race live starting at 8:00 p.m. (EST). Supercrosslive.com will stream qualifying practice beginning at 1:50 p.m. (EST).
