Monster Energy Thor Kawasaki Victorious at Sand Del Lee
Brett Metcalfe inches closer to points lead with victory near Nation’s capital
July 21, 2015(Kamloops, BC) The CMRC Canadian Motocross National series headed to the Sand Del Lee MX track, near Canada’s capital of Ottawa this past weekend for round 6 of the series and the Monster Energy Thor Kawasaki team was excited to get back in action on the sandy surface. With the injured Cole Martinez back in action in MX2, the team was sporting a full compliment of four riders for the race.
Coming into the race second in points in the MX1 class, Brett Metcalfe looked to make up some ground in the title chase and rode a strong race to take the overall win, with 3-1 moto finishes. The victory gave him his third win of the season and narrowed his deficit to 17 points with four rounds remaining.Also in MX1, Teddy Maier rode to 7th overall on the strength of 6-7 moto finishes. He’s currently 7th overall in MX1 after six rounds.
In MX2, after missing three rounds with a shoulder injury, Cole Martinez was back in action at Sand Del Lee and looking to get back up to speed. Things started off well in moto one as Martinez grabbed a great start and rode to a 6th place finish. In moto two, unfortunately he got caught up in the pack and had to come from way back to grab 12th. He ended up 9th overall on the day. In his second race with the team, Shawn Rife also grabbed a great start in moto one and ran up front for much of the moto till a tip over dropped him back to 8th. In moto two, he went down in the first turn and put in an impressive charge, going from last all the way to 13th by the checkered flag. His finishes gave him 10th overall on the day.
