MASONTOWN, W.Va. (May 25, 2015) - The Rocky Mountain ATV*MC/KR4/FAR Arrive-N-Ride Team captured 11 top-five finishes at the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC Mountaineer Run GNCC on Sunday, despite some of the most difficult terrain of the season. Headlining the team's effort was XC2 Pro Lites rider Nick Davis, who earned another victory in the highly competitive class, while teammate Thad DuVall finished third overall in the premier XC1 Pro class in his home state of West Virginia.
Nestled in the hills of West Virginia, Marvin's Mountain Top hosted round seven of the GNCC Series and presented a very rocky and rough set of obstacles for the racers. The KR4 Arrive-N-Ride crew prepped the team's machines to withstand the challenging conditions, thus resulting in some of the best performances of the season.
In the XC1 class, Rocky Mountain ATV*MC/KR4/FAR Arrive-N-Ride rider Thad DuVall got off to a great start aboard his Husqvarna FC350, where he maintained a top five running all afternoon. With only two laps to go, DuVall upped his pace dramatically to claw his way into a top three position, where he ultimately finished third overall in front of a hometown set of fans and family.
"I struggled pretty badly at the beginning but after riding around in fifth for a long time I knew I had a lot left in the bag," DuVall said. "I decided it was now or never so I shifted it up a gear and pushed my way to third. I almost caught Ryan [Sipes] at the end, but after working so hard the last two weeks to bounce back from injury, I am happy to put myself and the team back on the podium."
In the XC2 Pro Lites class, team rider Nick Davis returned to the center of the podium after three grueling hours of racing. Davis battled with points leader Jason Thomas in the beginning but Thomas soon began making mistakes that allowed Davis to capitalize and move forward.
"I guess I had a lot of fun today," Davis commented. "It was one of those days where I couldn't do anything wrong and it seemed like everything was going really well. I'm super happy to be back in the center of the podium and looking forward to the next round."
Duane Conner returned to GNCC racing action on Sunday to earn an impressive victory in the Senior A 40+ class.
