The AMA Pro road racing season begins this weekend, all eyes will be turning towards the Daytona International Speedway for the legendary Daytona 200, and AMA Pro Superbike, Supersport and XR1200 races as well. The Daytona weekend is one of the high points on the AMA calendar each year, with everyone taking to the high banks of the Speedway hoping for strong results early in the season.
Motion Pro is proud to support many teams in the AMA paddock, let's check in with a few of them:
Yoshimura Suzuki Racing-This team could rightly be called the Godfathers of AMA Pro Roadracing. No team racing in the AMA can claim their history and their outright dominance in the AMA series over the years. In 2012 Blake Young is returning to the team, as the senior rider for the first time, and his teammate Chris Clark is the rookie for Yoshimura. Both of these riders have some big shoes to fill, but Blake performed well last season, ending up second in the championship by just a few points. Chris Clark, who raced with Yamaha last year and finished 8th overall, has a new team and a new bike to get used to, so his story with Yoshimura is yet to be written. Motion Pro is the official tool sponsor of Yoshimura Suzuki. This world class team and mechanics rely on Motion Pro tools to keep their Superbikes running in top form.
Jordan Racing-The upstart team from half a decade ago is now one of the paddock regulars, and their two riders, Roger Hayden and Ben Bostrom both return for the second season in a row, which is always an advantage for both team and riders. Jordan Racing has a lot of resources at their fingertips, and an experienced crew as well. They finished in 5th and 6th overall last year, will a second year in a row with consistent crew and riders make a difference and move them up the finishing order? Jordan uses the innovative Revolver throttle and a special cam assembly to control their Superbikes, and Motion Pro has been the Official Tool Sponsor of Jordan Racing Suzuki from the first days of this team.
Pegram Racing: Larry is another journeyman in the AMA paddock, running his own team and serving as rider for many years now. Larry is on his second year with the powerful BMW S1000 Superbike, and Larry tells us that a new electronics package has made the bike more responsive and rider friendly than ever before. His testing times early in the season were right up there with the top performers, and he has beaten standing track records several times in the off season. He was 7th in the Superbike standings last year, on a completely new motorcycle, which is very respectable in such a talented field. Look to see him running farther up the ranking, and Larry's no holds barred riding style makes him always exciting to watch. Larry uses the Revolver throttle on his bike, and Motion Pro supplies the tools for Pegram Racing.
Vesrah Suzuki-While a veteran in the road racing world, Vesrah Suzuki is a new sponsored team for Motion Pro. Vesrah has set records for years in American endurance racing, and took to AMA Pro Sprint Racing full time in 2010. Fielding 600's in the super competitive Daytona Sportbike and Supersport classes, rider Cory West finished 5th overall in DSB last year and Corey Alexander (nephew to AMA Superstock champion Rich Alexander) finished 3rd overall in Supersport West. In 2012, Cory West returns to the team in DSB again, and Vesrah will field two standout youngsters in Supersport, Benny Solis and Jake Lewis. Both of these young men have distinguished themselves many times over in amateur and pro competition, and both could easily be considered championship contenders for the 2012 season. Vesrah is also using the Revolver throttle to give them an edge in control and feel over their competitors.
RS Racecraft Triumph- Another new team for Motion Pro is the RSR Triumph team. Featuring AMA regular Jason DiSalvo and Dustin Dominguez (who gave Triumph their first AMA Pro victory in 12 years last season), this wild card team could shake things up in 2012 in Daytona Sportbike. Jason was a contender all year last year on a Ducati 848, while Dustin developed the Triumph 675R three cylinder racer. RS Racecraft builds very nicely detailed racebikes, with a very high level of attention to every little part that can make them more competitive. They will be easy to spot on the track, with the signature three cylinder sound of the Triumph setting them apart from the v-twins and the inline fours. For Daytona, Jason is running special Gary Nixon tribute leathers and bodywork on his Triumph, a brand that Gary achieved much success on. RSR riders use the Revolver Throttle kit and Motion Pro is the official Tools sponsor of Team RS Racecraft Triumph.
Celtic Racing-Celtic Racing is back with a few partners, including Orient Express, and the National Guard for 2012. Riding for the National Guard side of the team is Corey Alexander, mentioned above when he rode for Vesrah last year, and is now with this very experienced team. Look for a front running performance from this young man. On the Celtic Racing/Orient Express side of the team is James Rispoli, a dirt tracker from New York who has been supported by Motion Pro since he was 12 years old. This young man made headlines in his first year racing as a pro road racer in 2009, making one of the most amazing passes we have ever seen into turn two at Laguna Seca. Keep your eye on this guy; his dirt track influenced riding style is spectacular! Celtic Racing benefits from the full line of Motion Pro products.
Attack Performance-Another one of the heavy hitters in the AMA paddock, Attack has a history in the AMA that goes back over a decade. For 2012 Attack is fielding the potent Kawasaki ZX10R in the Superbike class with veteran Steve Rapp at the helm. Steve has been fast in the off season, and the relationship between Attack and Steve is strong. Attack knows how to build a race bike, so we will see how Steve does in 2012. Expect to see him towards the front of the pack, especially at the faster tracks. Steve depends on the Revolver throttle to control the huge horsepower of the ZX10R Superbike. See Video
Melissa Paris- While last in this list, this young woman is definitely not least, and she is starting 2012 with some heavy hitters in her corner. Melissa has been competing in AMA Pro racing for many years now, and has many milestones in her resume. In 2012 she will be staying on Yamaha R6 race bikes, but she has the backing of the Attack Racing crew behind her for this season. No one, who knows Attack and its lead man Richard Stanboli, will count this group out for some good performances this year. Last year was pretty tough on Melissa, with a mostly privateer effort, but keep an eye on her this year, I think we will see some good results this year. Melissa is using the Revolver throttle and the relationship between Motion Pro and Attack goes back many years.
The racing starts at Daytona on Friday March 16, with the XR1200 race leading the way. There are two Supersport and Superbike races that weekend, and it is all capped off by the Daytona 200 DSB race, set to start on Saturday March 17, at 1:00pm.
